Mumbai, Nov 2: After an all-round performance, India's Yuvraj Singh has impressed the selectors ahead of the team selection for the four-match Test series that is due on Novemeber 5, Monday.
A day after MS Dhoni commented on Yuvraj Singh's inclusion, saying that it remains to be seen if the cancer-fighter is fit to play for five days as Test cricket needs 100% fitness, Yuvraj picked up a five-wicket haul and scored a half century for India A against England in the first tour game that concluded on Thursday.
"We have to understand that the five-day format has its own uncertainties, unlike ODIs or T20s. In Test cricket, there may be a situation that a team might bat for one-and-a-half to two days. We have to assess whether Yuvraj is ready to field for two days," the skipper had said.
Dhoni had also stressed that only the cricketer would know whether he can play the longer version of the game or not.
"Having said that, it is Yuvraj who is the best judge about how he is feeling. He has played a few domestic games and it is up to him to reflect on his game," Dhoni said when he was questioned about Yuvraj's Test recall.
Talking to a news channel Aaj Tak, Yuvraj Singh's mother, Shabnam Singh said she was very happy with her son's performance and would leave it to the selectors to take a call on his fitness.
"He has worked hard on his fitness and the results are showing," she said.
"It's for selectors to take a call on Yuvi's fitness. They saw him playing in the Duleep Trophy," Yuvraj's mother Shabnam told Aaj Tak.
Moreover, she also pointed out that Yuvraj found it difficult to cement his Test berth since Big 3 were in the team, as it was very difficult to replace them in the team.
"It was tough for him to find a permanent place in the Test side. India had players like (Rahul) Dravid, (VVS) Laxman & (Sourav) Ganguly and it was hard to replace them. But now that he has got a chance I am sure he won't let it go. His performance will speak for itself."
Since he has proved his worth in the A team, Yuvraj is likely to get a Test recall especially after his heroics against England and his performance in general after his return to the national T20 side.
