Mumbai, Nov 3: England came back strongly after the first session, as they posted 338/6 at stumps on Day 1, after losing 4 wickets in the first session against Mumbai A in the tour game at DY Patil Cricket Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday.
Johnny Bairstow led England innings as he scored a fabulous 118 off 177 balls which included 14 boundaries to the fence. Bairstow and Morgan had earlier added 108 runs for the fifth wicket before Morgan was dismissed 76. Later Samit Patel joined the party as he remained unbeaten on 53 along with skipper Stuart Broad (6*) at the end of Day 1.
Apart from the first session, Mumbai A failed to restrict England XI as the second session was thoroughly dominated by the visitors, while Mumbai bowlers managed to pick two more wickets in the last session.
Tea: After a dismal show in the first session, England backed themselves with an unbeaten 108 runs partnership between Johnny Bairstow and Eoin Morgan for the fifth wicket as they scored 174/4 at Tea on Day 1 of the tour game against Mumbai A at DY Patil Stadium on Saturday.
Johnny Bairstow (51) and Eoin Morgan (53) added 108 runs before Tea to pull England out of danger as the team posted 174/4 at the end of the second session.
Lunch Report: After the first match ended in a draw at Mumbai, the second one has not started well for the visitors England as well, since they have lost 4 wickets for 66 runs at the end of the first session on Day One.
England XI lost quick wickets early in the innings, as they lost Opener Nick Compton for 1 off the 5th over, while Jonathan Trott (28), Ian Bell (4) and Joe Root (28) all were dismissed before lunch.
Kshemal Waigankar claimed two wickets for 13 runs off 7 overs, while SuryaKumar Yadav and Javed Khan grabbed a wicket each to reduce England to 66/4 at the end of the first session.
Newly married Shikhar Dhawan was back on field as he bowled two overs and conceded 10 runs in the first session of Day 1.
Alastair Cook, Greame Swann and Matt Prior have been rested as Johnny Bairstow will keep wickets and Stuart Broad is leading the side in the absence of Alastair Cook.
