Ghaziabad, Nov 3: Delhi coach Vijay Dahiya backed his players Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir who failed to create an impact in the Ranji Trophy match against Uttar Pradesh as they were bundled for 235.
Vijay Dahiya, defended Gambhir and said that the left-hander's dismissal was a part and parcel of the game, which cannot be avoided.
But during his 63-ball 32, Gambhir smashed 5 boundaries to the fence which was quite promising according to his coach Vijay Dahiya.
Virender Sehwag on the other hand, was dismissed for 25, off Praveen Kumar's delivery, as he couldn't continue after getting a good start.
Moreover, Dahiya also added that the pitch assisted bowlers to a certain extent and admitted that Delhi batsmen also played false shots as Delhi collapsed after scoring 235 in the first innings.
"Gautam was batting really well and everyone saw how he got out. I mean that's part and parcel of the game. About Viru, he hit a couple of fantastic shots and he is someone who always backs himself. Initially, there was some help for the bowlers and some of our batsmen played false shots," Dahiya said after the end of first day's play at Ghaziabad on Friday.
He further added saying that he would look forward for a better performance from the bowlers as the pitch also assistes bowlers and batsmen.
"It's a good wicket and when I mean a good wicket, it's such a strip where even bowlers get some help. I would back my bowlers to do a good job and also hope that there will be a result."
