Dada unhappy over Tiwary, Dinda omission

Kolkata, Nov 6: Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly expressed his disappointment over Team India's squad for the first two Tests against England, and felt Manoj Tiwary and Ashok Dinda should have been picked as they have proved their worth time and again.

Despite hitting 93 in the tour game against England XI, Tiwary wasn't favoured as the new selection committee preferred Cancer-fighter Yuvraj Singh, who excelled in the tour game as well picking up a five-wicket haul and scoring a magnificent half century which earned him a Test recall.

While Manoj Tiwary has been ignored many a times to accomodate other players like Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh and Rohit Sharma in the limited overs format, had to face a similar situation in Tests as well as he is still awaiting his Test debut.

"It is disappointing to find Dinda and Tiwary are not in the squad. Dinda's selection was important. No player in the country is more deserving than Tiwary and Dinda," said Ganguly.

Moreover, the former India skipper was disappointed with the selectors as they repeatedly ignored Manoj Tiwary and Ashok Dinda, when they have performed very well most of the time when they are picked for the national team.

Manoj Tiwary has scored 251 runs off 8 matches at an average of 35.85 with a highest score of an unbeaten 104 against West Indies last year.

Tiwary has secured a century and a half century in the minimal opportunities he has got, as Ganguly also defended the batsman and felt disappointed with the outcome as Tiwary was not picked by the selectors for the first two Tests against England.

On the other hand, Dinda has also been quite impressive, as he has picked 10 wickets off 5 matches in T20Is while he has claimed 9 wickets off 10 matches in ODIs, hasn't played a Test match yet.

"They have always performed well whenever they got the opportunity. But neither of them know when they will get the next chance in spite of doing well," he said.

With both the players performing well and awaiting their Test debut, selectors haven't favoured them.

"They have always performed well whenever they got the opportunity. But neither of them know when they will get the next chance in spite of doing well," he said.

Ganguly also added that Ishant Sharma who has not been performing well has been preferred more, while Dinda who was the highest wicket taker in 2011 was not given a Test berth.

"Ishant Sharma has been given a lot of opportunities but has not performed as desired. Dinda was the highest wicket taker last year in the domestic season and has started off well this season. It is disappointing to say the least," said the southpaw.
