Irfan injures knee, out for a week

Baroda, Nov 6: India's Irfan Pathan has injured his knee during the Ranji Trophy match against Karnataka, which would keep him out of action for atleast one game.

Having scored 121 and 38 in the Ranji Trophy opener against Karnataka, Irfan Pathan also bowled 25 overs and picked 2 wickets. He did not take the field during the second innings. which prompted Baroda coach, Sanath Kumar to admit that Pathan was suffering from a swollen knee.

"Irfan was suffering from swollen knee from second day of the match," coach Sanath Kumar told Times Of India.

"His injury has aggravated and hence he will have to undergo treatment," coach Sanath added.

Moreover, being an integral member of the playing XI, Baroda will miss the services of the all-rounder for atleast one match especially the one against Vidarbha from Nov 9.

When asked coach Sanath about the seriousness of the injury and hjow long he would need to recover from the knee injury, Sanath said he wasn't sure about how many days it would take for Irfan to resume action.

"I cannot say how much time Irfan would take to get fit. It all depends on his rehabilitation at National Cricket Academy," Kumar said.

"He suffered from the swollen knee probably due to playing continuously over the last few weeks."

Irfan Pathan had aggravated the injury by playing continously for the last few days. Since the all-rounder wasn't picked for the two Test match series against England, Pathan gets some time to recover and strive hard for a Test recall.

With the entire Ranji season spread over three months, Irfan Pathan's injury leaves Baroda worried.
