Compton, who made 74 in the first innings, was unbeaten on 54 as England made a strong start to second essay with 118/0 in 38 overs at close of play on third day. They have an overall lead of 306 with a day to go.
Jonathan Trott, who opened the batting with Compton, was batting on 61. Compton hit seven boundaries in his 111-ball knock while Trott had 10 fours in his 117-run ball stay.
England did not enforce the follow-on after gaining a 188-run lead over Haryana. They opted for batting practice ahead of the first Test against India here on November 15.
Earlier, Haryana opener Rahul Dewan hit a fine unbeaten 144 to help his team to 333 all out in 113.4 overs. Dewan carried his bat, staying in the middle for 320 balls and scoring 17 boundaries.
