Ahmedabad, Nov 15: It was a welcome return to form for India opener Virender Sehwag as he hit a century to lead India to a good position against England on the opening day of the first Test at Sardar Patel Stadium on Thursday.

Sehwag's run-a-ball 117 and Cheteshwar Puajra's 98 not out helped India post 323/4 in 90 overs. Graeme Swann was the only successful bowler for visitors as he took all four wickets to have fallen on the day.

England fast bowlers bowlers toiled hard in Ahmedabad and it the pitch aiding spinners, Swann made the most of conditions to be on top.

It was also a day where Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir put to rest all speculations on their poor form with a century stand for the first wicket.
