Melbourne, Nov 16: West Indies legend Sir Vivian Richards has joined Melbourne Stars as a mentor for Big Bash League 2 (BBL 2) Twenty20 tournament, the Stars announced on Friday.
"The Melbourne Stars are excited to announce the appointment of West Indian cricket great Sir Vivian Richards as a mentor for their team during the second edition of the KFC T20 Big Bash League," the team said on their website.
Melbourne Stars Chairman of Selectors, Ian Chappell is thrilled to have Richards and Shane Warne with the Stars. Warne will turn up as a player for the team.
" Shane Warne was very keen to get Viv involved with the Stars in a mentoring role," Chappell was quoted as saying on Stars website.
"As a player Viv set himself high standards with former Pakistan captain Imran Khan describing him as ‘a batsman who intimidated bowlers.' He was also one of the best all-round fieldsmen I've seen - brilliant in any position from cover to slips and even at bat pad. We feel Viv will provide another expert opinion for the players to seek out, complementing what is already a strong support staff. This is a huge coup for the team."
BBL 2 starts next month.
