Ranji Trophy round 3: Record for Amol

New Delhi, Nov 17: Amol Muzumdar, on Saturday became the highest run-getter in Ranji Trophy history when he slammed a century for Andhra against Himachal Pradesh on opening day of their game in Nadaun. 12 matches got under way on Saturday in the third round.

Muzumdar, the former Mumbai captain, who is playing for Andhra this season, went past his former Mumbai team-mate Wasim Jaffer in the all-time run scorers list. With his 24th ton in Ranji Trophy, Muzumdar has gone past Jaffer's tally of 8,320. Muzumdar overtook Jaffer when he was on 69 and finally was dismissed for 101 today.

Muzumdar joined Vinod Kambli in terms of centuries with 24. However, the highest hundreds records in Ranji Trophy is owned by Ajay Sharma with 31.

Elsewhere, Haryana were shot out for 66 by Odisha in Rohtak. Former India batsman Mohammad Kaif's century rescued Uttar Pradesh against Karnataka in Meerut.

Captain Parthiv Patel made 61 for Gujarat against Bengal.
