Ahmedabad, Nov 18: India opener Gautam Gambhir has flown back home to Delhi from the first Test against England on Sunday, from Ahmedabad. Gambhir had to leave the Test match midway after his grandmother passed away.
It was not announced by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) or the team management as to when Gambhir would be back in Ahmedabad.
Since he is not fielding, Gambhir, even if he returns and India have to bat, will not be able to open the innings as he has not been on the field during England's second innings. In the first session, Harbhajan Singh was the substitute fielder on the ground for Gambhir.
Batsmen are permitted to stay off the field and straight away bat if they are injured on the field of play.
England resumed fourth day at 111/0 after following on. England were bowled out for 191 in their first innings on Saturday.
