Guwahati, Nov 19: Former India skipper Kapil Dev heaped praise on the young Cheteshwar Pujara for scoring his maiden double ton against England in the first Test at Ahmedabad but said the youngster has just started and cannot be compared to Rahul Dravid.
In numbers: Dravid; Pujara
Cheteshwar Pujara, who scored a maiden double ton against England in the first innings and an unbeaten 41 in the second innings to help India take a 1-0 lead in the four match series, as India won the first Test by 9 wickets.
Pujara who has been compared to Rahul Dravid, especially after the retirement of "The Wall", has played just 6 Test matches so far, but has shown the temperament of Dravid in the last few matches, as he scored a double ton against England in the first Test and had played extremely well in the tour game as well.
The cricketer who has many double tons to his credit in domestic cricket, has been impressive since his debut against Australia at Bangalore in Oct 2010.
With an unbeaten 206 and 41 in the first Test, the 25-year-old has collected 570 runs off 6 Tests, Pujara has definitely been impressive as theformer Indian skipper Kapil Dev, also praised the youngster, but rubbished the comparison as Pujara had just started his Test career, while Dravid has been the third highest run-scorer in Tests with 13,288 runs off 164 Tests.
"He has just started. He has shown great temperament but you cannot compare him with Rahul so early. Let him make his own position in the team and name for himself. It is unfair to put him under pressure and say he is the replacement of so and so," the 53-year-old was quoted as saying by PTI.
