Bangalore, Nov 20: Cheteshwar Pujara, who has been the talk of the town especially after his scintillating double ton against England in the first Test at Ahmedabad on Monday said that he should not be compared to 'The Wall' Rahul Dravid, his role model.
Though he is just 6 Tests old, the Saurashtra batsman has impressed one and all by his cool temperament and batting technique which is similar to India's batting legend Rahul Dravid.
The cricketing fraternity has been raving about the new star in the Indian dressing room, as some feel he has replaced Dravid at No 3 in Tests, after Dravid announced his retirement from international cricket earlier this year.
Former Indian cricketers have also been talking about the latest sensation, who has already made waves having played just 6 Test matches since his Test debut against Australia in 2010. Though Kapil Dev and Gavaskar heaped praise on Pujara, they stated that it is very early to compare Pujara to Dravid.
While there is a lot of debate on whether he is the next Dravid, the cricketer himself admits that he is inspired by none other than 'The Wall' Rahul Dravid, idolises him and also said that he should not be compared to the legend, as he has just started while Dravid has been the third highest run-scorer in Tests, in an interview to Mid-day after India's emphatic nine-wicket win against England on Monday.
"There's no comparison with God and his devotee. To achieve what Dravid has, one has to struggle a lot and must have that consistency," Pujara told Mid-day in an interview.
"Also one needs to mature a lot to play like him. To stay at the wicket and win so many matches is not easy at all. Toughness is the key. I learnt a lot from Rahulbhai and please don't compare me with him," Pujara was quoted as saying.
