Mumbai, Nov 23: Team India skipper MS Dhoni is just two victories short of becoming the most successful Test captain for India as former India captain Sourav Ganguly currently holds the record having registered 21 Test wins.
Team India skipper MS Dhoni has 20 wins from 41 Tests including the on-going Mumbai Test, as India's Test captain, while Ganguly has recorded 21.
Having led India in 49 Tests, Ganguly has registered 21 wins and 13 losses, which includes only 3 Test wins outside Asia, excluding Zimbabwe. While things aren't quite different from Dhoni's record book, as he has also registered only 3 Test wins outside Asia.
Dhoni, on the other hand has led India in 41 Tests, which includes 20 wins and 10 losses since 2008, after being named the Test captain of the Indian cricket team.
It needs to be recalled that Ganguly had to build the team, and his record as captain proves that he is a successful Test captain India had ever had, while Dhoni has been carrying the baton from Ganguly, as the team has just started to face the transition phase, as the team witnessed the retirements of Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman as it created a void in the playing XI.
Now, with Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli and others contributing, Team India is just on the way to regain it's No 1 spot in Tests.
With a win in Ahmedabad, Dhoni registered 20 Test wins, but a win in the second Test at Mumbai would help the team lead the Test series 2-0,while it would also equal Ganguly's record as he would have recorded 21 Test wins, to be India's most successful Test captain alongwith Sourav Ganguly.
