Bangalore, Nov 29: Ricky Ponting, who announced his retirement on Thursday, has had many battles against India. While he has won and lost among those, it is worth recalling one of the incidents involving India paceman Javagal Srinath and the Australian.
It was on India's tour of Australia in 1999-2000 when not a pretty sight was seen on the pitch when Ponting was on strike to Srinath.
In the second Test in Melbourne (December, 1999) during that tour, which Australia dominated and won 3-0, Ponting was seen sledging Srinath even after the Indian bowler was trying to express his concern after hitting the Australian with a bouncer.
Srinath, one of the quickest bowlers in India at the time, bowled a bouncer at Ponting and the right-hander, moved onto his front foot and tried to hook the ball. But he missed and the ball hit him on the helmet grille.
The soft-spoken Srinath, who hails from Mysore, went and apologised to Ponting, even though it was not the "Mysore Express" fault.
Clearly, Srinath would not have liked Ponting's not-so-impressive lip service.
Mark Waugh was batting with Ponting at the time of the incident. At the end of the day, both players left that on the field and have moved on.
