Ravindra Jadeja matches Bradman's record

Rajkot, Dec 2: Ravindra Jadeja has matched Sir Don Bradman and other batting greats by scoring his third triple hundred in first-class cricket and second this season during the Ranji Trophy game here on Sunday.

This is an Indian record by Jadeja. No other batsman had managed three scores of 300 or more in first-class. The batsman to have two triples in India are Vijay Hazare, Raman Lamba, VVS Laxman, Virender Sehwag and Wasim Jaffer.

Jadeja has presented himself the best gift four days ahead of his 24th birthday (born December 6, 1988). Jadeja has been out of the Indian team for more than eight months now. He last played in a One Day International during Asia Cup on March 16 this year against Bangladesh, the same match where Sachin Tendulkar got to his 100th international century. So far, Jadeja has 58 ODI and 12 Twenty20 International caps.

Left-handed Jadeja, playing for Saurashtra against Railways, scored an unbeaten triple hundred on the second day of the four-day Ranji Trophy game. Saurashtra ended the second day at 534/6 in 180 overs.

At stumps on day two, Jadeja remained 320 not out off 491 balls with 28 fours and seven sixes. He has batted for more than 11 hours. He had resumed the day at 111 not out. This is his seventh hundred in first-class career and today's 320 is his best.

This was Jadeja's second triple hundred this season. Last month, on November 12, he made 303 not out against Gujarat in Surat. His other triple ton (314) came in November 2011.

By scoring a triple today, he has joined an elite club of batsmen who have scored three triple hundreds or more.

Bradman leads the list with six triples in his first-class career while Walter Hammond and Bill Ponsford had four apiece. Brian Lara, Michael Hussey, WG Grace and Graeme Hick and now Jadeja have three 300s each.
