Melbourne, Dec 5: Two of the best spinners in modern times, Shane Warne and Muttaiah Muralitharan, will come face to face again in the Australia's Big Bash League (BBL) Twenty20 season 2 opener on Friday (December 7).
World's leading Test wicket-taker Muralitharan, with 800 victims, is playing for Melbourne Renegades while Warne (708 Test scalps) is with Melbourne Stars.
The BBL 2 action will open at Melbourne's Etihad Stadium. Already there is hype over the two spin legends squaring off.
"It will be a big hype and it will be a great contest, not between us, between both teams," Muralitharan was quoted as saying by stuff.co.nz.
"I don't think I'm here for the (showbiz) industry. I'm here to perform for the Renegades and do something for them. My aim is to just try to do well in the match, give 200 per cent and try as hard as I can. Hopefully with this hype, business-wise it will benefit both (Melbourne) teams," the Sri Lankan added.
On the hype, Muralitharan remarked: "It's good for the Big Bash and good for Australian cricket as well because you need a little bit of hype. Like the Indian Premier League (IPL), a lot of hype is created and then the sponsors will come and money is flowing and cricket will benefit."
Both Muralitharan and Warne have turned up for IPL sides and now it is BBL time. Who will come on top?
