Bangalore, Dec 6: A surprised Sachin Tendulkar was handed a golden duck by Shoaib Akhtar, when he faced the former Pakistan pacer for the first time during the Asian Test Championship in the year 1999, at Eden Gardens.
Here is a recap of an incident that happened at Eden Gardens, 13 years ago which involved master blaster Sachin Tendulkar and the former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar, who was fondly called Rawalpindi express.
Playing his 8th Test for Pakistan and the first against India, Shoaib Akhtar has revealed in his Autobiography, 'Controversially Yours' that he was nervous facing Sachin Tendulkar and the crowd at Eden Gardens as it was his first Test at Eden Gardens.
"My legs were shaking but I knew that Sachin was the guy I had to snare," he wrote in his autobiography, 'Controversially Yours'.
Interestingly, during the net session, the lanky pacer had walked upto Sachin Tendulkar and asked if he had heard of him, while the master blaster had replied negatively, while Akhtar had warned him saying that 'you will, soon enough'.
Shoaib Akhtar amidst all odds, bowled the first ball to the master blaster and was surprised to have rattled his stumps, as Tendulkar was handed a golded duck by the Rawalpindi express of the first ball!
Having told Akhtar that he had not heard about him ahead of thr Eden Test in 1999, Tendulkar walked up to the pacer after being dismissed off the first ball, and said 'I will remember you now', according to Akhtar's autobiography.
