Auckland, Dec 7: Brendon McCullum has been appointed as New Zealand captain in all three formats of the game, replacing Ross Taylor, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) said on Friday. Taylor has opted to take a break from international cricket.
Taylor, who led the side in team's tour to Sri Lanka, had drawn the Test series 1-1. However, it was reported that he had differences with coach Mike Hesson.
Following a full review after the Sri Lanka tour, Taylor was asked to give up captaincy of shorter formats but he declined.
"Following the recent full review a recommendation was made to split the captaincy, which was endorsed by the CEO and agreed to by the NZC Board," NZC said.
Unfortunately Taylor decided to decline the opportunity to captain the Test team and has come to an agreement with NZC to take a break from the international game, NZC said on their website on Friday.
