Ponting was a tough player: Warne

Melbourne, Dec 7: Australian spin wizard Shane Warne praised Ricky Ponting and termed him as one of the Australian greats after Greg Chappell, Allan Border and Donald Bradman.

Shane Warne currently in Melbourne to be a part of the Big Bash League, said that the newly-retired Ricky Ponting was very disciplined while playing for Australia.

Lavishing praise on the former Aussie skipper, Warne termed him as one of the Aussie greats.

"He was a guy who was pretty tough and an uncompromising sort of player. He will definitely go down with Greg Chappell and Allan Border and Bradman as the greatest batsmen Australia have had, and he'll hold up well on the international stage," Warne said.

Warne also added that Ricky Ponting bailed Australia out on many occasions.

"He loved a scrap, he loved a fight. It's not about how many runs you get, it's about when you get your runs and when you take your wickets. I think Ricky always got the majority of his runs when Australia really needed him."
