Kolkata, Dec 9: England, by winning the third Test against India on Sunday, became the first side in 13 years to defeat the home team at Eden Gardens. India had not lost a Test since 1999 at the iconic Kolkata stadium. However, that proud record was shattered by Alastair Cook and his men on Sunday on the fifth day of the third Test.
England won by 7 wickets to take a 2-1 series lead in the four-match rubber.
The last team to get the better of India at Eden Gardens was Pakistan in the Asian Test Championship. In February, 1999, Pakistan had won by 46 runs.
After that loss in 1999, India have played 8 Tests including today's game. They won five and two were draws.
Between 1999 and to date, Eden Gardens is best remembered for VVS Laxman's epic 281 which gave India victory over Australia after following on.
