Vinay Kumar picked up a hamstring strain during the Ranji Trophy tie against Vidarbha on Sunday and did not take the field since Sunday afternoon.
A scan on Tuesday suggested that Vinay Kumar had strained his calf muscle which has forced him to stay off for a couple of weeks.
Following his good run in the Ranji Trophy this season, Vinay Kumar was selected for the T20 internationals against England. Interestingly he had replaced L Balaji, who had suffered a stress injury to his right toe earlier.
Since Vinay Kumar picked up an injury ahead of the T20Is against England, selectors have named Abhimanyu Mithun as his replacement, who is awaiting his T20 debut.
India are scheduled to play two T20Is against England at Pune (Dec 20) and Mumbai (Dec 22) respectively.
