Sangakkara was the skipper of Deccan Chargers too, which was the earlier name of Hyderabad franchisee before BCCI terminated the contract and Sun Group bought the team this year.
The new owners of Hyderabad team also retained overseas players Dale Steyn, JP Duminy, Juan Theron (all South Africa), Cameron White and Chris Lynn (both Australia).
Earlier in the day, Sunrisers named Tom Moody as coach with VVS Laxman and Kris Srikkanth as mentors.
"I am happy and excited about being the mentor and probably the strategic analyst for the team. We have people like Tom Moody, VVS Laxman, Dale Steyn and Sangakkara. With the grace of sun god, we hope to shine brighter. We are confident of making a big impact," Srikkanth was quoted as saying by PTI after the logo unveiling ceremony in Hyderabad on Thursday.
Coach Moody said: "We are confident that the team will be successful in the forthcoming season of IPL 2013. We are keenly looking forward to it and our game will stand testimony to the competition we will give to other teams."
