The 35-year-old has been the No 1 bowler in T20s with 25 wickets off 15 matches in the calendar year. With 39 Test wickets and 31 ODI scalps in 2012, the tally has been 95.
Saqlain Mushtaq had claimed 101 wickets (69 in 36 ODIs and 32 Test wickets off 6 matches) in 1997 which has been rated as the best by any Pakistan bowler as it remains untouched since 15 years now.
With Saeed Ajmal playing two more matches in 2012, there are chances of him surpassing Saqlain's 15-year record.
Having claimed 2 wickets against India in the first T20 at Bangalore, Ajmal would look forward to get the remaining 7 wickets in the remaining two matches (Dec 28 and Dec 30) to overcome the veteran's record.
