Team India's New Year bash cancelled

Kolkata, Dec 31: Despite BCCI allowing Team India to take a day on Monday, the joint new year celebration for India and Pakistan has been cancelled ahead of their second ODI at Eden Gardens, according to a sources.

After India's six wicket loss at Chennai, Dhoni's men were allowed to take off on Monday as the players of both the teams had planned to celebrate the new year together.

"Though we had planned the joint celebrations, the same has been cancelled as team India players will be enjoying a much-deserved day off with their families in their respective homes on the New Year's eve," said Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) treasurer Biswarup Dey.

It is also learnt that the Prime Minister who was supposed to watch the match at Eden Gardens would give it a miss.

"The prime minister would be in the city to inaugurate the Centenary Session of the Indian Science Congress Jan 3, and we had plans to invite him for the match. But in the wake of the tragedy, he is unlikely to be present for the game," a CAB official said.

Moreover, the teams that were expected to reach Kolkata on Monday are expected to arrive on Tuesday.
