Bangalore, Jan 1:Australia captain Michael Clarke finished the year 2012 as the number one Test batsman with the maximum number of runs. The right-hander scored 1,595 runs. There is no Indian in the top 10 run scorers of the year.
The highest for India is Virat Kohli with 689 runs. He is in 18th position.
Clarke was in prolific run in 2012. He became the highest Australian run scorer in a calendar year, beating former captain Ricky Ponting's record. Clarke's highest score was 329 not out.
England captain Alastai Cook was the second in the list with 1,249 runs. His best was 190. He hit four hundreds and three half centuries.
South Africa's Hashim Amla finished the year in third place with 1,064 runs. England's Kevin Pietersen and Jonathan Trott are the other two batsmen who crossed 1,000 runs for the year.
