Cape Town, Jan 2: South African fast bowler Dale Steyn took his 300th Test wicket during the team's first Test of the series against New Zealand here on Wednesday.
Steyn dismissed Doug Bracewell bowled in the first innings of the first day's play to get to 300-Test wickets club. The right-arm paceman is the joint third fastest to reach 300 Test wickets along with Richard Hadlee (New Zealand) and Malcolm Marshall (West Indies). All three reached the milestone in 61 Tests.
The fastest to take 300 scalps was Australia's Dennis Lillee in 56 Tests. The second best was Muttaiah Muralitharan in 58. Overall, Steyn is the 25th bowler in Test history to take 300 or more wickets.
The 29-year-old Steyn is the fourth South African in the 300-group. The list is headed by Shaun Pollock (421) followed by Makhaya Ntini (390) and Allan Donald (330).
Steyn made his Test debut against England in 2004. His best bowling in an innings is 7/51 and best in a match is 10/91. He has 18 five-wicket hauls and four 10-wicket returns.
