A veteran of 104 Tests and 356 ODIs, has claimed 916 wickets including both the formats of the game during his career spanning 19 years.
The 46 year old amazed by Junaid's bowling abilities said the youngster's bowling reminded Akram of himself.
"In some ways, the way he sprints in for every ball, he reminds me of myself. I just don't understand why Pakistan keep dropping him every now and then. Junaid needs to play every format of the game for his country," Akram wrote.
Junaid made his international ODI debut against West Indies in April 2011, and played his first Test against Zimbabwe in September 2011. Less than two years into international cricket, Junaid has been a household name in Pakistan and amongst cricket lovers.
The 23-year-old has claimed 27 wickets off 8 Tests and 24 wickets from 15 ODIs.He has also recorded 240 wickets in 52 first class matches at an average of 21.54
Following the youngster's good show, Akram had also informed Lancashire about Junaid.The team was thrilled to have a talented bowler signed him for their county.
"He picked loads of wickets and learnt a lot. The club was just thrilled to have him. Today, at 23, he has loads of experience and has picked around 250 first-class wickets averaging 20 or 21," Akram wrote in his mid-day column.
The former Pakistan skipper also felt that the young Junaid should be representing Pakistan in all the three formats.
