Australia heading towards victory

Sydney, Jan 5: Matthew Wade hit an unbeaten century as Australia dominated third day's play against Sri Lanka in the third and final Test here at Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Saturday.

After taking 138-run first innings lead, Australia had reduced Sri Lanka to 225/7 in 62 overs at stumps on third day. Sri Lanka are 87 runs ahead with two full days left.

Wade hit 102 not out as Australia declared their first innings at 432/9 in 107 overs.

Sri Lanka, in their second essay, were helped by captain Mahela Jayawardene's 60 and opener Dimuth Karunaratne's 85. But apart from the duo, the rest could not do well.

Jayawardene and Karunaratne had a partnership of 108 runs for the second wicket. When Karunaratne was dismissed, Sri Lanka were 132/2. After his departure, Sri Lanka lost quick wickets of Lahiru Thirimanne and Thilan Samaraweera. Angelo Mathews was run out for 16 and his exit was followed by Jayawardene.

At stumps, Dinesh Chandimal and Rangan Herath were at the crease.

Australia won in Hobart and Melbourne for a 2-0 series lead.
