Winning farewell for Michael Hussey in Sydney

Sydney, Jan 6: Michael Hussey bowed out of Test cricket with a winning farewell as he guided Australia to a five-wicket victory over Sri Lanka on the fourth day of the third and final Test here on Sunday.


Hussey remained unbeaten on 27 as Australia successfully chased 141 to complete a clean sweep of the series 3-0. Australia finished with 141/5 in 42.5 overs.

The left-hander had a chance to end his career with a winning hit but his partner Mitchell Johnson scored the winning single at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).

The 37-year-old Hussey finished his Test career with 79 caps. He averaged 51.52, scoring 6,235 runs. His highest score was 195 and ended with 19 hundreds and 29 half centuries.

In the second innings, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 278 in 81.2 overs. Jackson Bird and Johnson finished with three wickets apiece. Bird was adjudged Man-of-the-match while captain Michael Clarke took the Man-of-the-series award.
