Bhuvaneshwar, Jan 12: Former India cricketers Dilip Vengsarkar, Ajit Wadekar and Rahul Dravid feel MS Dhoni should continue to lead the side in Tests.

Ajit Wadekar, Dilip Vengsarkar and Rahul Dravid who had attended the golden jubilee celebration of a city-based sports club at Bhuvaneshwar, felt the current team should be led by MS Dhoni.

Ex-cricketers want Dhoni to lead India

"At the moment Dhoni is the only one in form. He should continue... India do not have an option," Vengsarkar told reporters.

Talking about the team's performance in the recently concluded ODI series against Pakistan, Vengsarkar said "Pakistan played extremely well. I think they played better in all departments of the game."

"India need to improve a lot as the coming matches with England are very important," the batsman of yesteryears added.

The performance of the team has been "less than average", according to Vengsarkar and Wadekar.

Earlier Rahul Dravid also voiced his opinion on the same issue, as critics have been asking for Dhoni's removal as skipper following consecutive losses to England, Australia and Pakistan in the last one year.

"Not only is Dhoni the only man to lead India in Test cricket, he is still capable of doing the job well. What it will require from him is a change in the way he captains, a recognition that he can't do everything all the time, and the willingness to ask for and accept help," Dravid said.

But he also urged Dhoni to quit T20 captaincy in order to focus on Test captaincy and also reduce the burden.

With India's losing streak continuing, MS Dhoni would definitely need support from former Indian cricketers, as the team is undergoing a transition and need time to settle down.
