Melbourne, Jan 12: Australia left-arm paceman Mitchell Starc has suffered a calf injury and has been ruled out of the second One Day International against Sri Lanka to be played in Adelaide on Sunday, Cricket Australia (CA) said on Saturday.
Cricket Australia Physiotherapist Alex Kountouris, in a media release, said: "Mitchell Starc had some mild right calf soreness after the match at the MCG last night. Whilst we are not majorly concerned about it, we have withdrawn him from the game on Sunday as a precaution.
"He will be reassessed over the next few days and is a possibility to play next weekend's Commonwealth Bank Series matches against Sri Lanka if his symptoms resolve".
Australia won the first ODI by 107 runs on Friday. They lead 1-0 in the five-match series.
The National Selection Panel (NSP) has called up Kane Richardson as cover in the squad.
National Selector John Inverarity said: "Kane has been called in as cover in the squad due to his impressive form in the limited overs formats this season. This provides another great opportunity for a young player as we look to build towards Cricket World Cup in 2015".
