Ranchi, Jan 18: India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has said the team is high on confidence after winning the second One Day International and they are hoping to secure another victory against England in the third ODI on Saturday.
Jadeja spoke to the media at JSCA International Stadium on Friday. India won the second ODI in Kochi by 127 runs after losing the opener in Rajkot by 9 runs. The five-match series is tied 1-1. This will be the first ever ODI in Ranchi.
Here are the excerpts from the media conference.
On tomorrow's game
"We had played well in the last game, our energy level was high right from the first ball. We will try to carry the momentum from the last game forward. Our batting, bowling, fielding went well and we will try to keep the same thinking in this game also. Whatever the situation we will play accordingly and try to win the game for the team. We will keep doing well.
We have won the last game hence our confidence is high and we are all excited. We will try to do well and repeat what we are doing in the nets."
On the stadium and the pitch
"The stadium looks great, ground is nice with good grass all around, and the wicket also looks good. The facilities in the dressing room are good. We will try to win the first match in Ranchi. There was good bounce on the practice match but it was not like a match pitch. It was good that there was bounce and seam in the practice wicket, because it gives us good practice for the next game, which we will be playing in Mohali.
The practice wicket was little uneven but I don't think same will be the case with the match wicket. It has been rolled well, so the wicket will bind well and there will be good bounce. Bouncy wicket will be a good wicket for our next game in Mohali. We had a look at the centre wicket but do not know how it will play for the first time. We will try to whatever wicket it is, we will play good cricket."
On coming to MS Dhoni's home town. First match in Ranchi
"We are all positive. Looking forward to win the game. We hope to do the right thing and give our best. Dhoni is the same and he is excited about playing his first game at home."
On Jadeja version 2
"Ranji Trophy season went really well, and the two triple centuries boosted my confidence. Playing long innings was the positive point. After that all that I was thinking was that whenever I get the next opportunity in the team, I will do well. Earlier I used to play wrong shots and throw away my wicket because of poor shot selections. Now when I get a chance I make sure that I bat till the end, don't throw away my wicket and help the team win.
In bowling has always been good for me. Few ups and downs happen but I always rely on my strength. I stick to bowling stump to stump without experimenting much. I always use my mind while bowling and have not changed that approach."
On the decision on winning the toss
"It is the first game, we don't know about the wicket's behaviour - how it will spin or bounce. If we field first it will be nice because by seeing the other team batting we will get an idea of what is happening and what to expect. In my opinion fielding after winning the toss is important, and for that whichever team wins the toss will have a slight advantage."
On the boundary dimensions and outfield
"We had a fielding session yesterday but we don't know much about the outfield right now. The outfield is not as fast as Rajkot or Delhi (where India played their last game against Pakistan). The grass is good, fielders can dive and put in good effort. The boundary is normal like Kochi. It does not mean much, at the end of the day we have to play good cricket."
On Virat Kohli
"Virat has done very well for the country in the last one year. Ups and downs are a part of any cricketer's life and now is the time for Virat to come out of the low. If he plays one good innings then he will be back to run scoring. When he does well for the team, the team's morale and confidence is on a high. I hope he does well tomorrow and helps India win."
