New Delhi, Jan 22: The Board of Control for Cricket in India has denied Mumbai and Saurashtra's request as they are not releasing Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara for the Ranji Trophy final starting on Jan 26 at Wankhede Stadium.
A senior BCCI official denied reports related to the release of the two youngsters, Cheteshwar Pujara and Rohit Sharma for the Ranji Trophy final.
"Neither among the trio of Cheteshwar Pujara, Ravindra Jadeja and Rohit Sharma will be released for the Ranji Trophy final. They will be with the Indian team for the fourth and fifth One-dayers at Mohali and Dharamsala, respectively," a senior BCCI official clarified.
Further the BCCI official added, "We have never released players for domestic matches during a one-day series. It is only during Test series that we follow the rule of releasing at least three reserve players so that they can get serious match time."
While Mumbai skipper Ajit Agarkar also added that Mumbai would not get the services of Rohit Sharma for the Ranji Trophy final.
"He is with the Indian squad in the middle of an ODI series. Why should he be released when he has just been named in the squad for the last two matches," Agarkar said.
While the Ranji Trophy final starts on Jan 26, India and England will be playing the fifth and final ODI at Dharamsala on Jan 27. Having won two matches in the series, India are leading 2-1 in the five-match series.
