Skipper Dhoni breaks Dada's ODI record

Bangalore, Jan 24: Skipper MS Dhoni surpassed Sourav Ganguly's ODI record after leading Team India to a comprehensive five-wicket win against England in the fourth ODI at Mohali on Wednesday.

Dhoni having equalled Sourav Ganguly's record of 76 ODI wins in Ranchi, Team India skipper registered his 77th win against England at Mohali.

MS Dhoni has led India to 77 wins in ODIs off 134 matches so far to be rated second, behind Mohammad Azharuddin's 90 wins.

The Ranchi player's winning percentage as captain (62) is better than Sourav Ganguly (53.90) and Mohammad Azharuddin (54.16)

Having led to 77 wins off 134 matches, Dhoni has also witnessed 46 losses.

Mohammad Azharuddin has been leading the table with 90 wins off 174 matches which also includes 76 losses while Sourav Ganguly has led Team India to 76 wins in 146 outings as the team has lost 65 matches under his captaincy.

Dhoni who took over the baton from Rahul Dravid in the year 2007, has arguably been the most successful Indian captain. Dhoni having surpassed Sourav Ganguly's ODI record would try to break the former Indian captain's record in Tests.

Ganguly has recorded 21 Test wins, then highest by any Indian skipper, while Dhoni needs two more wins to surpass that record. Though not an impossible task, it remains to be seen if MS Dhoni can achieve the feat against Australia in the forthcoming Test series starting in Feb 2013.
