Dharamsala, Jan 28: Despite their seven-wicket loss to England in the fifth and final ODI at Dharamsala, Team India continued to dominate the ICC ODI ratings as they have secured 119 rating points, having won the series 3-2.
Since India won the series 3-2, MS Dhoni's men gained two rating points as they climed to the No 1 spot having started the series at 117 rating points (third spot).
Moreover, England slipped to 119 points after losing the series to India as MS Dhoni's men finished ahead of England by a mere 0.2 rating points to reclaim the No 1 spot after three years.
India had reclaimed the top spot after winning the third ODI at Ranchi on Jan 19, 2013 as the win against England at Mohali helped the team hold on to No 1 spot after the series.
Having gained the No 1 position in Sep 2012, England lost its position following its 3-2 series loss to India, as Dhoni's men reclaimed the No 1 position for the second time since Sep 2009.
South Africa's loss to New Zealand and Australia's dismal show against Sri Lanka also helped India claim the No 1 position. South Africa lost nine rating points and was placed fourth while Australia are placed third in the ODI team rankings.
With a cash award of USD 175,000 and Reliance ICC ODI Shield also given to the No 1 team as on April 1, 2013, the race has already begun, as Australia, West Indies, England, New Zealand, South Africa and Pakistan all have an opportunity to claim the top spot.
Since the top 6 teams are battling it out to finish first and second, all the matches are important, starting from the Australia-West Indies series from Feb 1-10, followed by England tour of New Zealand from Feb 17 and Pakistan tour of South Africa from Mar 10, 2013.
