Tired Windies women cancel practice game

Mumbai, Jan 29: West Indies women's cricket team, who were whipped by Australia by 135 runs in their first warm-up game ahead of the ICC Women's World Cup commencing on January 31, have cancelled their second scheduled practice match on Tuesday.

"They are jet-lagged and tired. So they have cancelled the match," said sources.

The Windies were set to meet a Combined Mumbai XI in their second and last tune-up match before taking on hosts India in their Group A tournament opener at the Cricket Club of Indias Brabourne Stadium on January 31, a day-night fixture.

In todays warm-up match against the Windies, Australia rattled up a huge 335 for five in 50 overs by riding on half century knocks from Elyse Villani, Rachael Haynes, Jess Cameron and Lisa Sthalekar.

The Aussies then bowled out the Caribbean side for 198 in 44.3 overs, Sthalekar completing a good game with a haul of two wickets, to emerge comfortable winners.

Brief scores: Australia Women 333/5 in 50 overs (Elyse Villani 50 retd, Rachael Haynes 61, Jess Cameron 62, Lisa Sthalekar 59 retd., Jodie Fields 35 not out) beat West Indies Women 198 in 44.3 overs (Deandra Dottin 52, Merissa Aguilleira 32; Ellyse Perry 2-36, Lisa Sthalekar 2-42) by 135 runs.
