Bangalore, Feb 1: Rajasthan Royals have signed India Under-19 World Cup winner Harmeet Singh for the sixth edition of Indian Premier League (IPL).
Royals announced on their website on January 31 (Thursday) that they have included the 20-year-old left-arm spinner in their squad for IPL 6.
Harmeet was part of the India squad that won the Under-19 World Cup in Australia last year. His success in that tournament earned him a spot in Rest of India squad for Irani Cup against Rajasthan same year. However, he did not make an impact in the match played in Bangalore.
During the Under-19 World Cup, young Harmeet's action was compared to the legendary Bishan Singh Bedi by former Australia captain Ian Chappell.
This is the first time that Harmeet has been included in an IPL team. Rajasthan won the inaugural edition in 2008 under Shane Warne's captaincy.
This year's IPL will start in the first week of April.
