Starc the star as Australia rout Windies

Perth, Feb 1: Australia cruised to a nine-wicket victory over West Indies in the first One Day International here at the WACA ground on Friday. After destroying the visitors' batting for just 70 runs, Australia raced to victory in 9.2 overs with the loss of opener Aaron Finch.

The second of the five-match series will be played at the same ground on Sunday (February 3).

Left-arm paceman Mitchell Starc was the star with the ball as he took five wickets for 20 runs. Clint McKay had three scalps as West Indies batsmen struggled against swing. Starc took the Man-of-the-match award.

In the chase, Glenn Maxwell raced to a 33-ball fifty to seal victory.

West Indies innings lasted only 23.5 overs. Four of their batsmen failed to score and only three managed to get into double-digits. Darren Sammy's 16 was the top score.

Chris Gayle was dismissed for 4 runs while Dwayne Bravo, comeback man Ramnaresh Sarwan, Kieron Pollard and Sunil Narine were out for ducks.

Starc had bowling figures of 6.5-2-20-5. McKay had 7-3-10-3. Debutant left-arm seamer James Faulkner took two wickets.
