Bangalore, Feb 5: The sixth edition of Indian Premier League (IPL 6) could be the last for Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar. The cricket icon, having returned to captain his franchise, might not be seen in 2014's IPL.
During this year's IPL, which starts on April 3, Tendulkar will celebrate his 40th birthday. On his birthday - April 24, Tendulkar will be playing against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens.
By the time next IPL starts in April, 2014, Tendulkar will be few days shy of his 41st birthday. He might not be keen to continue playing in the Twenty20 format. He has already given up One Day Internationals and nobody knows how long he will wield his willow in the Test arena.
Also, this year will be the last season of IPL player contracts with the end of three-year term. From 2014, it will be another fresh signing of three years.
There is speculation that Tendulkar has returned as Mumbai Indians captain for his last stint as IPL player. He will be wanting to bow out on a high by leading his team to victory. Mumbai have not won IPL title so far.
But amid all this, it is no guarantee that Tendulkar will bid adieu to IPL this season. But he is likely to make up his mind during the course of this edition.
