After beating Pakistan by 211 runs in the first Test at Johannesburg, South Africa have been dominating the cricketing world with consistent performance.
Having scored 37 and an unbeaten 74 against Pakistan in the first Test, Amla has scored 287 in 3 matches including a highest score of 110 at an average of 95.66.
The highest run-scorer in 2013, third highest in 2012 with 1064 runs off 10 matches at an average of 70.93 has been playing extremely well in the last few years.
When asked about Amla's domination, the grounded cricketer has said the team has been performing very well and it is not only because of his consistent performance.
"It's been a great year for our squad, and to be honest I still don't think that I am the best batsman in our team. What has been most pleasing for us has been the all-round contribution from everyone in the squad," said Amla.
Apart from Hashim Amla, South Africa's AB de Villiers, Jacques Kallis also feature in the top 10 rankings for batsmen, while Dale Steyn, Vernon Philander are ranked first and second, Morne Morkel is ranked 9th in the Test rankings for bowlers.
"You wake up in the morning, keen to practice and play, not only because the team is winning but because of the environment that has been created and the players we've got," Amla added.
"When this team puts its mind together it's a pretty tough team to play against," feels Amla, the highest run-scorer in the calendar year.
