The former Australian captain, who had scored his 79th first-class ton and remained unbeaten on Wednesday, completed 200 today for Tasmania.
As Ponting touched 200 not out, Tasmania declared their innings in their Sheffield Shield match against New South Wales (NSW) in Hobart.
With his latest double hundred, Ponting now has more double centuries in first-class cricket than Tendulkar. This was Ponting's 9th while Tendulkar has 8 so far.
Ponting has scored 6 double tons in Tests while 3 have come in Sheffield Shield. Tendulkar has 6 in Tests, 1 in Ranji Trophy and 1 for Mumbai in a game against visiting team - Australia in India in 1998.
Tendulkar is currently playing for Mumbai in Irani Cup against Rest of India at Wankhede Stadium. He is nearing 25,000 first-class runs and needs 104 to reach the milestone.
In this year's Indian Premier League (IPL 6) will see both Ponting and Tendulkar in same team - Mumbai Indians. The franchise bought Ponting for $400,000 in the player auction.
Ponting retired from international cricket last year while in December, 2012, Tendulkar quit from One Day Internationals.
