Bangalore, Feb 9: Harbhajan Singh possesses an impressive record against Australia at home. But that will not be enough for him to secure a place in the Indian squad for the four-match series.
With the selectors meeting on Sunday (February 10) to announce the Test squad, the committee is almost certain to ignore Harbhajan.
The offspinner, who is currently leading Rest of India in Irani Cup against Mumbai, took three wickets but was not at his best. One of those wickets was a "gift" from the umpire as Ajinkya Rahane was wrongly adjudged LBW. Rohit Sharma was the other victim and it was due to his poor shot selection that led to his downfall. The third wicket was of tailender Javed Khan.
R Ashwin and Pragyan Ojha will continue to be India's spinning pair against Australia.
Harbhajan has so far played 12 Tests against Australia in India. He has bagged 81 wickets (7 five-wicket hauls) at an average of 24.48. He is best remembered for his 32-wicket haul in 2001 series.
The past record will count for little as he waits for his 100th Test cap.
