Chennai, Feb 16: After being dropped from the squad for the first two Tests against Australia, India's Gautam Gambhir on Saturday proved his worth by scoring a magnificent century against Australia in the second warm-up match on Saturday.
Having dropped from the squad for the first two Tests against Australia Gautam Gambhir ensured that he scored a brilliant ton against Australia in the warm-up match to silence his critics.
Gambhir's 162-ball knock 112 included 13 boundaries and 3 sixes. His glorious innings came to an end in the 56th over of the day, as he edged a Moises Henriques delivery which landed in Watson's hands at first slip.
Interestingly he had not scored a first-class ton since January 2010 as he had recorded a ton against Bangladesh, three years ago.
After being snubbed by selectors, Gautam Gambhir who had not scored a first-class ton since three years scored a brilliant hundred against Australia on the first day of the second warm-up match on Saturday.
When asked about his preparation for the warm-up on the eve of the match, Gambhir said "I just want to concentrate on training and then scoring big runs. I won't give the critics another chance to talk about my batting."
Proving his critics wrong, Gambhir has showed the selectors that he is still in contention for a Test berth for the series against Australia, since they have not picked the squad for the last two Tests to be played at Mohali (Mar 14-18) and Delhi (Mar 22-26).
