Chennai, Feb 19: Australia coach Mickey Arthur is confident that opener David Warner will recover in time and play the first Test against India from February 22.
Warner, who had injured his finger, missed both warm-up games and was in doubt for first match. However, Warner batted against fast bowlers during a training session on Tuesday.
"His (David Warner) thumb's improving really well. He has batted against pace today (and) he's probably batted three hours over the last two days against spin, so I'm pretty confident he'll be ready to go," Arthur was quoted on Tuesday in the Australian media.
If Warner fails to be fit, Ed Cown will have Shane Watson as opening partner.
