Visakhapatnam, Feb 28: Yuvraj Singh was out for a duck as Kerala stunned Punjab by 46 runs in the quarter-finals of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 50-over tournament here on Wednesday (February 27).
It was the first time that Kerala, without the services of their paceman S Sreesanth, made it to the semi-finals of this all-India tournament. Sreesanth was banned for two matches for breach of code of conduct during the South Zone One Day tournament in Goa and will now be available for semi-finals.
Punjab opted to field first and they were sent on a leather hunt by Kerala batsmen. Captain Sachin Baby smashed a breezy 70-ball 104 not out with 12 boundaries while opener VA Jagadeesh hit 119 off 120 balls with eight fours and a six as Kerala posted 320/6 in 50 overs. Yuvraj took 3/39 in 7 overs.
In the chase, Punjab were bowled out for 274 in 47.3 overs. Yuvraj was dismissed for a three-ball duck. Gurkeerat Singh made 99 while Mandeep Singh contributed 81.
Left-arm paceman Prasanth Parameswaran took three wickets including Yuvraj. S Sandeep Warrier, RV Gomez and P Prasanth had two scalps apiece.
In another match, Karnataka defeated Uttar Pradesh by seven wickets in the pre-quarter-finals.
