Melbourne, Mar 4: James Strong, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, has died at the age of 68 on Monday.
The Board and staff of the Local Organising Committee of the ICC World Cup 2015 are profoundly saddened by the death of their Chairman, James Strong AO, the organising committee said in a media release.
James possessed a passion and vision for the tournament that set the tone for the entire organisation. A world-class leader, he was always friendly and approachable, taking the time to get to know the staff and listen to their views, the release added.
ICC Cricket World Cup chief executive John Harnden knew and worked with James for close to 20 years.
"James has been a friend and a mentor to me over a long period and I will miss his company and his advice. He has made a massive contribution to corporate and sporting life in Australia and New Zealand.
"We extend our sincere condolences to his family and many friends.
"We will continue the work he began on the World Cup and deliver a tournament in
2015 that would make him proud."
Harnden said a statement regarding Mr Strong's successor as Chairman would be made in due course.
