Ranchi, Mar 10: India captain MS Dhoni on Saturday (March 9) visited the Durga Deori Mandir in Tamar, which is situated about 65 kilometres from Ranchi.
Dhoni and rest of the Indian team have more than week's break between the second and third Test against Australia. Dhoni is back in his hometown and was seen offering prayers to Goddess Durga here.
The Indian captain is a regular visitor here and this has resulted in the temple gaining popularity, according to Ma Durga Samiti Deori, the temple trust, a report in "The Times of India" said on Sunday.
"After media reports surfaced that Dhoni was an ardent devotee of the temple, more and more VIPs started coming here. As a result, the temple has seen more development and renovation in nine years than it did in the 700 years of its existence," temple pries Manoj Panda was quoted as saying in the newspaper report.
The report claimed that from 50 devotees per day, it has shot up to 1,500. And donations have also started to flow in, from Rs 5,000 per month to Rs 1 lakh.
India and Australia will face off again in the fourth Test starting in Mohali on March 14. India lead the series 2-0.
