Guwahati, Mar 11: Yuvraj Singh and Unmukt Chand hit unbeaten half centuries to guide North Zone to a eight-victory over Central Zone in the first semi-final of the Deodhar Trophy here at Nehru Stadium on Monday.
Set a revised target of 160 runs from 33 overs due to rain and bad light, North Zone completed the chase in 29.5 overs. Both Yuvraj and Chand were unbeaten as they shared a match-winning partnership of 129 runs for the third wicket.
Yuvraj was named Man-of-the-match for his 70-ball 77 which contained nine fours and three sixes. Delhi youngster Chand hit five fours in his 86-ball 56.
North were initially set a target of 191. They had a bad start with captain Gautam Gambhir falling for just nine runs. Chandan Madan too was dismissed cheaply, for six runs. They were 31/2 in 6.5 overs when Yuvraj joined opener Chand. They ensured that Central Zone did not have further success with the ball and took North Zone into the final.
The second semi-final will be played on Tuesday between South Zone and West Zone. The final is on March 13.
Praveen Kumar, who returned to action after serving a ban, was out for a golden duck while batting but took two wickets.
Earlier, legspinner Amit Mishra took three wickets to restrict Central to 190 all out in 41.5 overs. Ashok Menaria topscored with 34 while Suresh Raina made 33.
