Guwahati, Mar 12: Half centuries from Vijay Zol, Yusuf Pathan and Kedar Jadhav powered West Zone into the final of the Deodhar Trophy after they beat South Zone by five wickets in the semi-finals here at Nehru Stadium on Tuesday. West will face North Zone in the final on Wednesday (March 13).
Set a target of 259, West Zone completed the chase with plenty of overs to spare. They won in 41.1 overs. At the start, they were in a spot of bother with 26/2 in 6.1 overs but Yusuf's attacking innings made the task easier.
Yusuf scored eight boundaries and two sixes in his 53-ball 68. Opener Zol made 75 off 88 balls with 11 fours and a six. Jadhav remained unbeaten on 56 off 44 balls with eight fours. Zol was named Man-of-the-match.
Earlier, South Zone were in trouble at 143/5 and were in danger of being bowled out early. But Stuart Binny (65, 54 balls, 7x4) and Sachin Baby (58, 68 balls, 3x4) had an 87-run partnership to steer the team past 200. Captain Dinesh Karthik scored 45.
