Shikhar Dhawan to make Test debut

Mohali, Mar 13: Left-handed opener Shikhar Dhawan will make his Test debut for India in the third Test against Australia starting tomorrow (March 14) here at the PCA Stadium.

Dhawan, who plays for Delhi in the Ranji Trophy, has previously featured in five One Day Internationals and one Twenty20 Internationals for the country. Dhawan will be India's 277th Test player and second debutant this series. Paceman Bhuvneshwar Kumar had played his maiden Test in the first match in Chennai.

The 27-year-old has been a prolific run scorer in domestic circuit and will partner Murali Vijay in the third Test. Dhawan replaces Virender Sehwag, who was dropped from the squad after the first two Tests of the four-match series.

In 81 first-class matches, Dhawan has scored 16 centuries and 24 fifties. He has accumulated 5,679 runs at an average of 45.79.

India lead the series 2-0.
